Otitis Media & Otitis Externa
Middle ear infections are among the most common pediatric ailments. An accurate diagnosis is essential as they require medication and prompt intervention to prevent sustained hearing loss. Outer ear infections need to be identified early in their course to avoid inflammatory extension.
Nasal Allergy & Sinusitis
Seasonal or year-round environmental allergies have a wide range of presenting symptoms and findings. Bacterial and viral sinus infections are managed differently. A thorough examination, combined with allergy testing when indicated, will lead to effective treatment.
Obstructed Breathing
A child who does not breathe easily and sleep well at night will not perform at their best. Common causes of obstructed breathing in children are from large tonsils and adenoids, but several other very common head and neck diagnoses also need to be considered.
Tonsil & Throat Infections
Bacterial and viral throat infections can significantly affect your child’s quality of life. An accurate diagnosis often requires a comprehensive head and neck evaluation.
Newborn Hearing
Newborn Hearing Screening (NBHS) is recommended for all infants by the time they are one month old. Non-invasive technology can safely and quickly assess the function of the inner ear and rule out hearing loss. Newborns have their NBHS performed at their birthing hospital. Repeat testing is sometimes necessary and in-office NBHS is available for these infants, as well as for those infants who did not have access to in-hospital testing.
Voice & Singing Disorders
The delicate membranes of the voice box are easily injured. Proper speaking and singing technique are essential to maintain normal function and to sustain peak performance.
Tympanic Membrane Disease
The eardrum is a complex multi-layered structure that connects to the small bones of hearing within the middle ear. It is comprised of living, self-healing tissue, which needs to vibrate and function within normal parameters to maintain hearing.
Pediatric Airway Pathology
Loss of upper airway function is among the most stressful feelings to experience. It may come on abruptly or progress steadily. Children are subject to a variety of urgent anatomic and infectious disorders from infancy and throughout childhood, which can result in significantly reduced airflow.
Newborn Breastfeeding & Breathing
Coordinating breathing, nursing, and swallowing is a finely tuned neurological function. There are many impactful diagnoses to consider, including “floppy airway,” “reflux,” as well as “tongue and/or lip tie,” along with several other Head & Neck embryological developmental anomalies. Speech & Language Development
Verbal communication is a foundational building block of intellectual and social development. Children must progress steadily, and it is important to identify early on those who do not appear to demonstrate normal speaking parameters for their age.
Hearing Loss & Auditory Processing
The technological ability to detect and quantify hearing loss in infants and children has led to remarkable interventional options and strategies. The capability of the brain to process and interpret normal auditory input is a variable that may become a significant educational challenge for some children.
